A 400 roubles/night hostel recommended in St. Petersburg

Just got a hint from a client about a very inexpensive, comfortable, and exceptionally well-situated hostel in St. Petersburg at ulitsa Yakubovicha 20, tel. +7 911 278 1114, e-mail hostelantre@mail.ru. It is said to be a few steps from St. Isaac’s Cathedral on Nevsky. They rented two beds in a four-bed room for 400 roubles ($7) a night each, which is a very good rate for the center of St. Petersburg.

New!! Budget apartment for rent in St. Petersburg, Metro Obvodnoy Kanal

st-petersburg-3From Fred, an old client and friend of mine from Washington. Small, freshly redecorated in simple but modern Russian style, 4th floor of early twentieth century building with no elevator. No info on the rate at the moment but probably on the inexpensive side.

A guide (possibly/probably free) in St. Petersburg

Got the following letter from a woman in St. Petersburg:

“I am a traveller, good cook, very simple and easy going,
well educated and working in newspaper, joga addicted, interesting in other cultures. If you are easy-going man and  going to visit  Sankt-Petersburg, I can be you guide. I want to get more practice in English.” more >>

Escapism..

“Internal escape”, suppose, is as typically Russian as “internal exile”. Let me add the New Way Collective Farm, a tiny anarchist community near Boksitogorsk, ~200 miles east from St. Petersburg, to my collection. Established in the late 80s or very early 90s, at the hight of the “back to earth” sentiment.
