More talk about birding

Rumors of high-level talks about turning bird-watching into region’s key industry have reached my old skeptical self’s den.

On request from the environmental, community action etc. circles (to which I’m connected through nature enthusiast Alexandra) I hereby announce that they (the Kandalaksha Nature Reserve, Kola Center of Wild Nature Protection, Yavr Publishers, Murmansk Eco Consulting, Murmansk branch of All-Russian Society of Nature Protection, and several other very respectable entities)are are gearing up to provide guides, transportation, accommodation and what not to western bird watchers that are expected to flock here in huge numbers.

Full text of the plan is at murmaneco.com/index.php/murmanbirds.

Expressions of interest are invited.

While they are discussing how to make it right I’ll jump right in with my offer. Transportation, accommodation (including a camper, tents, and a variety of camping gear) is available from me. I too am part of the bundle in the capacity of a driver, an interpreter, and an all-around fixer. I will even fake an interest in avifauna while assisting you.

The camp includes two tents, one bicycle, internet (note the tall aerial), 220 volt power supply, a warm toilet etc. etc. to make working in the field as comfortable as in a well equipped office.

That was my advertising masterpiece of the day. I get a gut feeling they will make me re-write it though.
