Passes to border zones in the Kandalaksha and Kovdor districts

no-entryYou may want to get close to the border to see WWII and “Winter war” artifacts like the German of Finnish cemetery by Old Salla. If so, you’ll need a special permit.

(And you are welcomed to ask for my assistance in obtaining these permits.)

Here is some recent info on where to go for these permits:

Checkpoint services in Alakurtti: ul. Zarechnaya 1, tel./fax 8-8153-35-31-36.

Their section in the city of Kovdor: ul. Gornyakov 28, tel. 8-8153-57-12-40.

Entry into the “border zone”:

In the Kandalaksha district: 146th kilometer of the Kandalaksha to Salla Border Control Point.

In the Kovdor district: 16th kilometer of the Kovdor to state border road.

Origin: Order No. 572 of Nov. 13 2012 by the Federal Security Services “On the administrative procedure of the Federal Security Services on the provision of state service of issuing passes …. to border zone…”, in force from April 11 2013.
