Ruskeala granite quarry

I’m glad to share yet another series of photos by Igor Podgorny from the Ruskeala granite quarry used from XVII to the beginning of XXth century, now turned into a park. Location: near Sortavala, Karelia, 40km north from the Ladoga Lake. Water transparency is 15-18 meters, which attracts divers. Granite extracted here was used for many St. Petersburg buildings, including St. Isaac’s cathedral and stations Primorskaya and Ladozhskaya of the St. Petersburg subway.

The official site of the Ruskeala park is ruskeala.info.
