Today they ordered me an advertising text for the upcoming trade expo in Kirovsk or Apatity or whatever. As usual I ended up with a complete rewrite instead of a translation. I like them and what they do, and am happy to make my humble contribution to promoting them. Here is the text of the leaflet in the making:
Through epochs and generations
Gold embroidery – that’s what we are about.
Gold embroidery is an ancient technique. There are samples dating back as far as the 10th century. Gold embroidery originated in the Byzantine Empire. After the fall of Constantinople in 1453 this technique became associated with the kingdom of Moscow and then, as it grew, with the whole of Russia, and became one of its symbols. After decades of neglect it is back to its rightful place, and we are proud to be part of the trend.
Items made using this technique are not only beautiful but practical and durable. Some examples: purses, collars, book covers, necklaces, bracelets, brooches, pins etc.
We also make bedding, plaids, table covers, pillow cases and other items from linen, a beautiful lasting natural material.
Although we are traditional and even conservative, we haven’t quite escaped the lures of the computer age. Bring us your picture in .jpg, we’ll shove it into the computer, and the machine will do the rest.
