Short term rental is offered occasionally through real estate agents but don’t expect that the apartment will be equipped with basics like linen or dishes. Kandalaksha is stuck in a time-warp and corresponds to Moscow of about 1997-1998. Tried that ourselves in the winter of 2011, failed to find any practical short-term apartment rental offers, ended up staying in the the the guesthouse associated with the hospital in turn attached to Russian Railroads. Yes, arrangements like that are common here. A delightful little place. Since it is not a hotel we’ve been explicitly asked not to announce it here but write and I’ll give you contact details.
Once in a while I, this site’s admin, become aware of room and apartment offers that owners don’t wish announce in the open information space because of aggressive tax and other authorities but probably more because of my compatriots’ propensity to secrecy. Feel free to ask, there is more than a negligible chance I may be aware of something.
