Plastic dome over Kanozero stone carvings

TV Kandalaksha reports that a polycarbonate dome has been put up over 600-something carvings. The construction is 10m high and 20m in diameter, was financed from Moscow and cost 13 445 300R ($US 264045 at current exchange rate of 51 roubles to the dollar US).

Glass caps over Kanozero rock carvings

An announcement has recently been made in Murmansk Vestnik about building glass cupolas over the rocks to prevent thousands of tourists from wearing them off. The photo is by Gennady Alexandrov of the Kandalaksha Tourist Information Center.

The Petroglyphs of Kanozero

kanozeroRock carvings (petroglyphs) have been discovered on the islands of Lake Kanozero, between Kandalaksha and Umba in 1997. No, not a mistake, in 1997. These Kanozero islands been declared a historic site, and a Petroglyph Museum was set up in Umba. The address is ul. Dzerzhinskogo street 36.
