The Murmansk Region section of the Ministry of Emergencies now requires all travellers going on potentially dangerous routes (sailing, mountains) to register with them ten days before the trip and report that they are well daily. Presumably, should they disappear, the Ministry will undertake a search.
Here is the form in English on the Ministry of Emergencies site travellers need to fill out before being on their way.
Yet another of these silly events… As much as I dislike motors and vehicles and other activities that take me away from my couch I’ll share this piece of news because this sort of happenings does attract viewers, among whom an occasional client may materialize.
Starts on Sunday, September 2 2018, on the Kandalaksha’s main square, and proceeds to an undisclosed location somewhere on the Barentz Sea shore, probably ending up in Murmansk.
The race lasts a week, and participants are, in addition to Russia, from Norway and Finland. The Norwegians will be riding their ATVs.
This is the 25th race of this sort.
Here is a video from one of the past Arctic Trophy events to give you an idea what it looks like.
A roofer from Apatity, Alexander Borisov, jumped from a 40 meter bridge over the strait connecting Lake Ecostrov and Lake Imandra on Friday, apparently in search of adrenalin.
Consequences: a cracked bone and major bruises.
Alexander is asking people not to repeat this feat.
Little Wood 2018 festival is happening in Kirovsk on August 4 2018. The event begins at 4pm. Location: Stadium Tirvas. The festival features several local and one rock group from Petrozavodsk as well as Arctic cooking, which I assume includes lots of fish and deer meat. The weather, with daytime temperatures way above 20C, is especially conducive for visiting such an event, and it is still quite light at night.
Fourteen “ugly duckling” Citroen 2CV cars with 29 courageous Dutch on board have left Groningem, the sister city of Murmansk, and are expected to arrive on January 26. The group plans to visit the Children’s Hospital and the Center for the Disabled in Murmansk.
On returning from the Village of Kuzomen found the little horse hanging by our camper again. This time, with more than one beer inside me, I thought it a good idea to get on the animal that, apart from attempting to bite at my legs, took this abuse quite calmly and gave me a ride around our camp.
