The center’s director Ludmila is a big fan of seals, thus this emblem

Maps, guidbooks, advice, assistance with booking accommodation in Kandalaksha or anywhere else in the Murmansk region. They speak English although it may take some effort to get used to their profoundly Russian sentence structure (I don’t always understand them myself), and even some Finnish (Suomi?)
Yep, that’s her. As most of us rooted in the Soviet era Ludmila seems to have difficulty looking into the camera.
Most services and materials are free thanks to a tourism development grant Lapkola-2(?).
The center’s director, Ludmila Alexandrova, is a regional history and an environment enthusiast, not a small functionary of the sort you usually find in these municipal tourist info centers, and will welcome your questions and go out of her way to help. Also she is the best friend of my best although at times difficult friend so I’ll always jump in if my participation is required.
WARNING:
THINK TWICE BEFORE ACCEPTING HER INVITATION FOR A HIKING TOUR OF SUBURBAN WASTELAND TURNED INTO PARKS WITH HER INTENSE PARTICIPATION, AND ARE HER PRIDE. SHE CAN WALK FOR HOURS, NO STOPPING, NO SNACKS, NO BEER BREAK, AND HER MOSQUITO TOLERANCE IS WAY ABOVE THAT OF ORDINARY MORTALS. IT WAS A MEMORABLE WALK IN JUNE 2013, LUDMILA, AND I SHARE THE STORY AS MY REVENGE.
