A large room 5 min. walk from the Kandalaksha train station. It is something of a run-down 70s time capsule but clean bedding, running water, and a functional toilet are waiting for you.
$25 per person per night.
Circumstances permitting, you’ll get fed too, and given a complimentary tour of Kandalaksha.
Two rooms or even the entire apartment may be available in the summer for $40/night.
Above: kitchen. Below: bathroom.
More photos coming up.
A warning for sensitive souls:
Hot water has that peculiar flavour I encountered once before, during the Staritsa phase of my life, when a large rat died in the pond, and its disintegrated remains got sucked into the heating tank. But that’s a Kandalaksha-wide issue, not something specific to this apartment.
THE SPRING WITH POTABLE WATER IS WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE.
But no mice. No roaches. And the Internet is surprisingly fast and reliable.
The animal has received extensive training on annoying people by climbing on their head (the prompt is “lysina”) or crawling into sleeves. On command it will also assume a rude and offensive position (“zhopa”). Crawling into sleeves and dansing inside is something Luzik happily does without being asked or offered a reward.
Several stores in the vicinity. Booze can easily be bought till midnight. Steps to the inter-city bus station!
